ESP provides a fully managed service for participation in STOR. When combined with the correct contract structure, companies can generate significant additional revenue AND reduce carbon emissions AT THE SAME TIME!

What is STOR?

STOR is one of National Grid’s (NG) balancing services, for which they make payments for switching off or turning down energy intensive equipment. Participating in STOR enables NG to manage the UK grid and deliver significant carbon savings as a result. On-site generation as well as load reduction can be offered for this scheme and clients can operate using either a sufficiently large piece of plant or an aggregation of smaller equipment.

What YOU need to do to join STOR?

A single STOR provider must be able to:

  • Offer a minimum of 3MW or more of generation or steady demand reduction (this can be from more than one site). If you have less than this capacity available, ESP can aggregate your availability with others to reach the minimum threshold;
  • Deliver full load management within 240 minutes or less from receiving instructions from National Grid;
  • Provide full load management for at least 2 hours when instructed;
  • Have a recovery period after providing Operating Reserve of not more than 1200 minutes (20 ours) and;
  • Be able to provide STOR at least 3 times a week.

  • Developing and implementing a bidding strategy and negotiating contracts with NG;
  • Creating and negotiating export supply contracts with Energy Suppliers;
  • Arranging NG accreditation and “Go Live”;
  • Managing day-to-day operations and site despatch with NG;
  • Completing full invoice reconciliation with NG and your energy suppliers.
